THE SOFT LANDING.

This week's ten minutes live in the early evening — the moment you land back home from the day. A practice for setting things down: the bag, the shoulders, the mental tabs, in that order.

The Session · 10 minutes

Landing, minute by minute

Best done soon after you get home — sofa, kitchen chair, anywhere. Read it through once, set a soft ten-minute timer, and descend.

0–1 min

Arrive — actually

Sit down. Feel the weight of your body being fully held by the chair — you don't need to hold yourself up anymore.

"The day is out there. I'm in here. Both things can be true for ten minutes."
1–3 min

Sigh it out

Three audible sighs — a full breath in, then let it fall out through the mouth. Then let the breath find its own gentler rhythm, exhales a little longer than inhales.

3–6 min

Set things down

Visit the places that carry the day: the jaw, the shoulders, the hands, the belly. At each stop, imagine setting down a small bag you've been holding there. No forcing — just permission.

"Jaw — you can put that down. Shoulders — you too. Hands — the day is done with you."
6–9 min

Rest in the room

Open your attention to the sounds and warmth of home around you. Nothing to fix, nothing to plan. If the workday knocks, note it — "later" — and come back to the room.

9–10 min

Land

One deeper breath. Open the eyes slowly. Notice one thing in the room you're glad to see. Evening starts here.

"I didn't just get home. I arrived."
Between Sessions

Five micro-pauses for real life

Small landings, scattered through the day.

  1. The shoes-off pause

As the shoes come off at the door, one slow breath — the body's own ritual of arrival, finally noticed.

  2. The commute exhale

Engine off or bus stop reached: one long exhale before the next thing begins. The day's chapters deserve page breaks.

  3. The dish-water warmth

Washing up, feel the warm water on your hands for three breaths. Chores make surprisingly good anchors.

  4. The sunset glance

Once an evening, thirty seconds at the window just to see what the sky is doing. It's doing something different every night.

  5. The light-switch breath

The last light you turn off at night: pause, one breath in the dark. The day's final full stop.

The Weekly Plan

Seven days, one gentle rhythm

Four full landings this week, micro-pauses every day. If evenings are chaos in your house, the parked car before you walk in counts as a landing strip too.

If sitting still feels impossible at that hour

Make it a moving landing: the same practice, walking slowly around the block — sighs, shoulders, arriving. The form matters far less than the setting-down.

"Happiness, not in another place but this place — not for another hour, but this hour."Walt Whitman
